Longwood Country Inn, Woodbury, CT
Longwood Country Inn is located in the antiques capital of Connecticut amidst the beautiful Litchfield Hills. Built in 1789, the Inn features five guest chambers tastefully appointed with period furnishings and modern amenities. Longwood's critically acclaimed restaurant is the multiple winner in the 2007 Readers Poll of Connecticut Magazine as "Best New Restaurant" and "Best Brunch" in Litchfield County. The dining room and lounges feature three wood burning fireplaces and overlook the elegant grounds and gardens.
The Inn is truly "the best of both worlds" as described by The New York Times. Although set in a classic colonial over two centuries old in Woodbury's Historic District, each guest room offers private bath, cable television, free wireless internet access, air conditioning and plush beds with fine linens.
A variety of bed sizes (king, queen, twin) are available and three luxury suites offer gas-log fireplaces, two with whirlpool tubs, and French-telephone showers. Creative flair is apparent in every element, from the spacious room proportions to the exquisite draperies, upholstery and antique armoires and other furnishings. For Inn guests, breakfast is included, and hot and cold beverages and snacks are available.
The Restaurant, located in the same building, offers creative American cuisine in an intimate dining room complemented with 18th Century antiques, expansive views and the ambience of a glowing fire in winter or al fresco dining in the gardens or country porch in summer. Lunch and dinner are served Tuesday through Saturday, and a renowned brunch is served Sundays. Reservations are strongly suggested.
The grounds and gardens feature the authentic “Benjamin Franklin Milestone” placed on the postal road in the late 1700’s and a magnificent and rare Yellowwood tree whose pendulous white blooms in late spring are remarkable in beauty and fragrance. Beyond the formal gardens are five acres of ornamental plantings and wooded walks culminating with serene frontage on the Pomperaug River.
Under new ownership, the Longwood Country Inn and the Restaurant were completely renovated in 2006, and have become the premier destination for antiquers, leisure travelers, romantic couples, family reunions, showers, weddings, parties and specialty dinners. The quiet, yet convivial atmosphere, also makes it a favorite for business lunches and dinners, and the functional amenities (free internet access, facsimile, direct phone access) have made it popular with business travelers on the road. Whatever your need, you will find The Longwood Country Inn to be the perfect combination of quality dining, lodging and service in a uniquely beautiful and historic setting.
